Fern, Cretan Brake

Scientific Name: Pteris cretica
Common Name: Pteris Fern, Cretan Fern, Cretan Brake Fern, Ribbon Fern

The tradition of ferns as houseplants gained popularity in the mid- to late-1840s when wealthy homeowners would decorate their homes with them. Since then, ferns have become far more accessible and are very popular additions to indoor plant collections around the world. Ferns can give your indoor (and outdoor) space a touch of tropical or evergreen forest vibes. An added bonus is that nearly all ferns are fairly low maintenance and thrive in a variety of conditions.

The Cretan Brake Fern originated in many places around the world Europe, Asia & Africa. It has unique foliage from other ferns, with fronds that have up to 5 pinnae on the ends. Cretan Brake Ferns have grayish green fronds with light cream centers.

Basic Care Notes: Low to medium indirect light, keep evenly moist but not saturated. Ferns prefer humidity, but dont want to be soaking wet, either. Think forest floor-conditions, dappled lighting, natural humidity.
